Abstract
1410981 Gas turbine engine fuel systems; injectors PLESSEY CO Ltd 21 Dec 1972 [6 Jan 1972] 570/72 Headings F1E and F1G Liquid in excess of requirement delivered by a positive displacement pump is used as inducing fluid in an injector in the pump inlet, which injector has geometry which is automatically variable by a control pressure to maintain efficient operation over a wide range of inducing fluid-flow. Pressure liquid supplied to the annular chamber 27 flows through the passageway 31 and induces flow from the passage 26 having an inlet 25. The passage 26 is formed in a slide member 20 which is axially adjustable to vary the width of the passageway 31; adjustment is effected as shown by control pressure connected at 7a and acting on diaphragm 29. In another embodiment the slide is connected to a control diaphragm through a lever mechanism Fig. 3 (not shown). It is stated that the passage 31 is shaped to cause the flow to adhere to the wall of the outlet passage 22 (Coanda effect). In a further embodiment Fig. 4 (not shown) an inducing fluid jet nozzle is connected to a control diaphragm. The injector is used in a fuel supply system shown in Fig. 1 in which the excess flow from pump 4 is returned by pipe 8 to the injector 9 which induces flow from the pump 3. Control pressure is fed from system 7 to the control mechanism of the injector. Specification 1353010 is referred to.
