Abstract
1410967 Pressure gauges S H A SCHMAUS and F G REICK 21 Dec 1972 59278/72 Heading G1L [Also in Division D1] A pressure sensor comprises two cantilever springs 16, 17 of different spring rates and different lengths, the springs being similarlycurved in a spiral, helical or (as shown) C-shape and spaced apart by a flexible bladder 19 whose internal chamber can be subjected to fluid pressure from input 13 such that the bladder distends causing deflection of the springs 16, 17, which are inter-connected at their free ends by a common head 18. Preferably the head 18 carries indicator means in the form of a pointer 10 moving over a scale 11, but alternatively an electric analogue output can be provided. The springs 16, 17 may be metallic or of plastics, and may be flat, wire-like or trapezoidal in section. The bladder 19 is preferably rectangular in section and made of a reinforced rubber such as a woven fabric impregnated with silicone rubber solution. To minimize friction between the springs 16, 17 and the bladder 19, the springs may be coated with a lubricant and the bladder with a layer of minute glass balls.
