Abstract

1410948 Grippers CLARKE CHAPMAN Ltd 12 Nov 1973 [14 Nov 1972] 52437/72 Heading B8H [Also in Division F2] In order, in a hydraulic transmission, to allow relative rectilinear movement between the driving and driven parts, an inner tube 10 traverses the entire length of an outer tube 18, sleeved thereon, so as to avoid the hydraulic displacement which would occur with relatively telescoping tubes. As shown, sliding end structures 22 each include a hydraulic seal 24, a bearing bush 26 and a wiper ring 28. In mechanical handling equipment for the repetitive feeding of workpieces to a lathe, one gripper 140 carries a workpiece to be inserted in a chuck, while the other 142 carries a finished workpiece just removed therefrom. The grippers may be moved synchronously by ram means 180, 182 along tubular guides 152. These guides 152 act as the inner tubes 10 of hydraulic transmissions as in Fig. 1, the outer tubes 18 of which are constituted by sleeves 160 and 162. The sleeves 160 and 162 are ported at 164 and 166 to gripper-operating rams 148.
