Abstract

1410662 Moulding powder FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 21 Sept 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 43749/72 Heading C3B A moulding powder comprises an intimate mixture of particles of: (I) a copolymer of 15-40% (by wt.) glycidyl methacrylate, 0-30% (meth)acrylonitrile and 85-30%, of methyl methacrylate, having an average M.W. of 1500-16000 and softening point >25‹C.; and (II) a C 4-20 dicarboxylic acid having a m.p. of 30-160‹ C. II is present so as to provide 0.8-1.2 COOH groups per epoxy group of I. In I up to 1/3 of the weight of methyl methacrylate may be replaced by another monomer, e.g. styrene, α-methylstyrene, vinyl acetate or another (meth)acrylic ester of a monohydric alcohol. From 2-20% by wt. of I may be replaced by an equivalent amount of another polyepoxide, e.g. a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A. Examples of II are adipic, azelaic, pimelic, malonic, sebacic, undecanoic and brassylic acid. The compositions may contain a catalyst, e.g. a tertiary amine, an amine salt, an imidazole, a metal carboxylate or a quaternary ammonium salt. A reinforcing filler, e.g. glass fibres, clay, CaCO 3 or CaSiO 3 may additionally be present. Specification 1,334,354 is referred to and the subject matter thereof is disclaimed.
