1410170 Bale accumulators J A D HAY WARD 2 Nov 1972 [2 Aug 1971] 36310/71 Heading B5F A bale handling apparatus comprises a grouping unit 1 which forms bales into ranks extending tranversely of the apparatus and a releasing unit 2 which receives the ranks from unit 1 and has a gate 67 which is unlatched at will by the operator to release the rank or ranks thereon. The apparatus is coupled by means 6 to a crop baler. The grouping unit has a roller bed 7. When a bale drops from the baler on to one end of the bed it depresses arm 25 to initiate movement of an arm 42 which pushes the bale along the bed past a non-return flap 43. A further flap 47 at the other end of the bed is depressed when the bed is full of bales between the flaps 43 and 47 and causes, on the next depression of the arm 25, a rod 23 mounted on chains 22 to move the rank of bales thus formed on to unit 2. The arm 42 and chains 22 may be driven by an hydraulic motor 9 having an overload valve, by an electric or I.C. motor, or by the power take off shaft of the tractor hauling the baler. The unit 2 comprises a sledge universally coupled to unit 1, and having spring steel strips 72 lying on the ground and telescopic side rails 61. Removable wheels may be provided for the sledge.
