Abstract

140,989. McLeod, A. D. Nov. 12, 1919. Air, heating; ventilating-conduits, arrangements of. - Relates to apparatus of the type in which an air-heating chamber is formed round the fire. space of an open fire-place and also round an uptake for the combustion products situated in the chimney, the air being admitted into the adjacent room or rooms. The fire-box 2 is formed with a neck 3 to which a collar 7 is secured, the flange of which receives a hood 9 which contracts to its upper end 10 where it connects to a smoke-pipe 11 in the chimney flue. A casing 13 surrounds the fire-box and hood and is continued upwardly by a sheet-metal pipe 17 forming a lining to the chimney and spaced from the pipe 11 by suitable spacers, such as that shown in Fig. 7. A damper 12 is fitted in the lower part of the hood 9. Air enters the space 14 by vents 21, 21<1>, and after being heated enters the room by a vent controlled by a register 23 near the ceiling. In a modification, Fig. 8, the air chamber 14 is extended upwardly and additional air ducts and vents 25, 26, 28 are provided for withdrawing cold air from, and supplying warm air to, the room above.
