Abstract

1409764 Transport system KRAUSSMAFFEI AG 16 Jan 1973 [17 Jan 1972 8 July 1972] 2144/73 Heading B7L A transport system comprises a track having a switch and a vehicle 1 having two electromagnetic arrangements each including at least one row of electromagnets 4 extending longitudinally thereof and magnetically engageable with armature rails 6 on the track for supporting and guiding the vehicle, each electromagnet arrangement being adapted to co-operate with an armature rail on either the inside or the outside thereof. To improve the guiding function some of the electromagnets in each row may be replaced by electromagnets with flat transverse arms between which the upper arm of the armature rail projects or, alternatively, magnets with short transverse arms may alternate with separately energizable magnets having longer transverse arms in each row. At the track switch additional track beams are provided and the electromagnet arrangements co-operate alternately with armature rails to their right and left during passage through the switch. Alternate magnets may be offset to opposite sides in each row or asymmetric magnets with offset transverse arms may be used to give a smoother passage. At locations within the switch where an electromagnet arrangement has an armature rail on each side thereof energizing windings on the rails are used to cancel undesired magnetic effects. In the embodiment of Fig. 10 the single magnet rows of the previous embodiment are replaced by double rows 106, 107 and 108, 109 and corresponding magnets have their U-shaped cores linked by a common winding 119. At points in the track switch where an electromagnet arrangement changes its engagement from a rail on one side to one on the other the rails, as 110, 116, may recede upwardly to their ends in the region of overlap.
