Abstract
1409714 Helico-centrifugal pumps ROLLSROYCE (1971) Ltd 5 Oct 1972 [16 Oct 1971] 48235/71 Heading F1C In a pump as described in Specification 1153993 in which, to permit operation at high rotational speeds and low suction heads, the screwlike impeller blades are so formed that random cavitation tending to obstruct flow through the impeller is replaced by a controlled cavitation extending over the whole span of the suction side of each blade, beginning at the upstream end of the impeller and terminating in a region intermediate the upstream and downstream ends of the impeller, the blade angle increases from the upstream end, reaching a maximum value at a region which may be located at a distance from the upstream end equal to approximately 30% to 50% of the length along the impeller, and thereafter decreasing towards the downstream end. The maximum value may be approximately 125% to 150% of the value at the downstream end. The curve of blade angle plotted against the length along the impeller may be such that the increasing part of the curve is monotonic while the decreasing part contains a point of inflexion, or vice versa.
