Abstract
1379701 Axial-flow fans AISIN SEIKI KK 8 Jan 1973 [8 Jan 1972] 1033/73 Heading F1C A vehicle engine cooling fan comprises blades 11 extending from a hub 10, the angle α, between the chord line 17 of each blade and the plane of rotation being less than or equal to the angle #, between the chord line 17 and the chord line of a leading edge portion 18 of the blade. The leading edge portion 18 is therefore inclined at a negative or zero angle with respect to the plane of rotation. The hydrodynamic forces exerted on the blade when it drips into flood water are therefore reversed or at least nullified over the leading edge portion 18 whereby deflection of the leading edge portion into contact with the radiator is avoided. To assist in confining deflection of the blade to the trailing edge portion 19, a groove 20 or a shoulder (21), Fig. 7 (not shown) may be provided, preferably on the pressure side of the blade. The length of the chord line of the leading edge portion 18 may be 8% to 30%, preferably 8% to 20%, of the length of the chord line 17.
