Abstract

1409594 Adhesive coated sheet materials BEIERSDORF AG 20 March 1973 [24 March 1972 26 July 1972] 13403/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Sheet material (e.g. paper or siliconised release paper) is coated with an adhesive composition comprising an aqueous mixture of (a) a water insoluble polyvinyl alkylether in dispersed form and/or a copolymer containing 80 to 90% by weight of units derived from one or more acrylic acid esters containing 4 to 12 carbon atoms in the alcohol residue and 10 to 20% by weight of units derived from one or more copolymerisable monomers (e.g. acrylic- or methacrylic acid, acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate, 2 ethylhexyl maleate, diethylmaleate and/or methyl methacrylate) (b) polyvinylmethyl ether (c) an alkali metal and/or ammonium salt of polyacrylic acid, polymethacrylic acid or of a copolymer of acrylic and methacrylic acids (d) a monomeric plasticiser (e.g. a phthalate ester) and (e) an emulsifier. After drying, a further sheet material may be applied to the coated surface of siliconised paper and the adhesive layer is transferred to the further sheet by lamination. Either of the coated paper or the laminate may be used for the manufacture of labels. In the latter siliconised paper acts as a carrier for pressure sensitive adhesive labels.
