Abstract
1409584 Digital clock ISE ELECTRONICS CORP 25 July 1973 35355/73 Heading G3T In an electronic clock, letters and digits are displayed by luminous display tubes, each including a grid, luminous electrodes and a cathode whose bias potential is varied so as to change the brightness of the display in accordance with the ambient light, as detected by a photo-electric element. As shown, the element 3 is a CdS cell or phototransistor that controls the cathode bias of tubes 1a to 2d, the element being connected to the centre tap of input transformer 5 or to the mid-point of the serially connected cathodes. The tubes, which display am, pm or a four digit time indication, are driven by a common decoder and driver 4 from binary coded time signals, with a separate grid drive 6 from counter 8, or are driven by individual driver-decoder circuits for each tube Fig. 3 (not shown).
