Abstract
1408232 Suspension device COMPTEURS SCHLUMBERGER 8 Jan 1973 [6 Jan 1972] 1045/73 Heading E2F A suspension device comprises a first member 12 connected to a first shaft 22 through a thrust bearing 13 and springs 14, the shaft being connected by a universal joint 15 to a second shaft 21 which is connected by a thrust bearing 16 to a second member 20, the shafts 22, 21 being, in use, suspended from the member 12 and constituting a torsional pendulum given a frequency of a few Hertz by the springs 14. The device may be suspended from a balloon by a bifilar suspension (24), Fig 3 (not shown) by means of a shackle 11, and the member 20 be connected to a nacelle containing instruments. A motor comprising stator 17 and rotor 19 controls the orientation of the nacelle in response to signals from a power amplifier (28), Fig 4 (not shown), which sums a signal for controlling the orientation and a continuous low frequency signal near to that of the torsional pendulum for imparting an oscillation of small amplitude to actuate the ball bearings.
