1408200 Fluoran compounds SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 27 Oct 1972 [29 Oct 1971 27 Dec 1971 10 Feb 1972 24 Feb 1972 13 April 1972 17 May 1972 22 June 1972 17 July 1972 (2) 28 July 1972 (2)] 49727/72 Heading C4P [Also in Division D2] The Specification claims per se, and describes the preparation of, 2,6-diaminofluoran compounds optionally having (i) a [c]-benzo ring which may be saturated or (ii) a 4-phenyl, 4- cyclohexyl or 4-benzyl substituent. When both optional features (i) and (ii) are absent then at least one of the amino nitrogen atoms is at least mono-substituted other than by hydrogen. They are prepared by (a) reacting an o-(2- hydroxy - 4 - amino - benzoyl) - benzoic acid compound with a 4-amino-phenol, (b) reacting an o-(2-hydroxy-5-amino-benzoyl)-benzoic acid compound with a m-aminophenol or (c) by reacting 2,6-amino-fluoran compounds with an N-alkylating, N-acylating or N-sulphonylating agent. The dyes give green, red purple, brown and black shades when contacted with electron acceptor materials in copy papers.
