Abstract

1408169 Bacon packages OSCAR MAYER & CO Inc 4 Dec 1972 [24 Jan 1972] 55929/72 Heading B8C A sliced bacon package comprises a shingled stack of bacon slices B arranged on a backing board 14 having a non-transparent portion and a transparent or apertured portion so that at least part of the bottom face of the bottommost bacon slice is visible through it, and a cover member at least part of which is transparent. The aperture in the board 14 may be covered by transparent film 28 of plastics material. The backing board 14 and bacon slices B may be enclosed between two transparent sheets 16, 18 which are sealed at their periphery and the package is evacuated. The backing board 14 has a portion 22 folded over the top of the bacon slices and bearing printed matter. The sheets 16, 18 may be in the form of a pouch or tube. Alternatively, the board 14 and bacon slices B may be enclosed in a tubular carton having a window aperture at the top and also at the bottom in a position corresponding to the aperture in the board 14. In a further modification, Fig. 11 (not shown) the backing board 14 and bacon slices are covered with a gas-impermeable sheet (66) which is sealed to the backing board and has a transparent area, and this package may be evacuated.
