Abstract

1407998 Processes for producing reversed images ENERGY CONVERSION DEVICES Inc 10 Aug 1972 [12 Aug1971] 37410/72 Heading G2C Reversed images are produced either by (i) imagewise exposing a sensitive material in contact with a trap former which on exposure is capable of trapping the energy carriers released from the sensitive material and uniformly exposing (normally to heat) to produce an image in the unexposed areas or (ii) by the process of (i) but using a sensitive material which changes its physical structure on exposure. As particularly described (a) a material containing an organo tellurium compound as disclosed in Specification 1405628 plus dimethylformamide as trap-former is imagewise exposed and heat developed to produce a positive image of Te, (b) a material comprising a transparent support, a layer of Cu as trap-former and a layer of Se/S in a 19:1 ratio, is imagewise flash exposed and uniformly heated to form crystalline Se in the unexposed areas and to leave amorphous Se in originally exposed areas; Ag may be added to Se/S layer to lower amount of flash exposure required and (c) a material comprising a layer of Se/Ag in a 3:1 ratio (Ag acting as a trap-former) on a transparent support is imagewise exposed to flash and simultaneously heated to 100‹C to produce a crystalline image in the unexposed areas: however if heated to 120‹C a crystalline image is produced in the exposed areas. Other materials which may be used are disclosed in Specification 1397566.
