Abstract

1407989 I C engine cylinders YANMAR DIESEL ENGINE CO Ltd 27 Sept 1973 [20 Oct 1972] 48526/72 Heading F1B I.C. engine cylinder or liner 1 is made of hypereutectoid aluminium-silicon alloy and is formed with grooves in at least the area of the inner surface 3 along which the piston seals slide, the grooves being filled with a material having a higher melting point than the alloy. The grooves form a spiralling loop or chequer pattern and are filled with a ferrous alloy, molybdenum, metallic carbide or ceramic in molten form. The piston movement may be reciprocating or rotary.
