Abstract

1407712 Cylindrical refiners: disc mills: mixing apparatus E H CUMPSTON JNR 9 March 1973 11554/73 Headings B1C and B2A A cylindrical refiner 9 Fig. 1 has a rotor 22 with raised bars inclined at angles relative to the axis which effect a net degree of feeding less than the angled raised bars on the coaxial stator 21. The rotor bar orientation ranges from neutral feeding effect to a feeding effect less than the bar orientation of the stator. As described material is supplied via a hopper 14 and screw-fed by a screw 16 between discs 18 19 of a disc refiner and thence between the rotor and stator 22, 21 and discharged at 15. The rotor and stator have grooves 32, 31 Fig. 2 respectively. Blocks 24, 23 are bedded in the grooves which have a dovetail section. Blocks and spaces are arranged and clamped by bars 35, 37. The blocks are of hard metallic alloy grouted with an epoxy or plastic grout. The blocks may be formed as in Figs. 3..8. Typical angles are 15‹ for a rotor and 10‹ for a stator. Blocks may be arranged in sequences as shown in Figs. 11 and 12. A second embodiment has a stator formed by a pair of shells with radial annuli 63 Fig. 13 and axial bars 64, Fig. 14, to strengthen the shells. The blocks 55 are held in place by screw levers 68 and clamp bars 66. Rotor blocks 56 are clamped by wedge bars 84 and screws 85. A third embodiment has rotor and stator bars angled at 10‹. The arrangement of angled and neutral bars in each case facilitates thorough mixing and homogenization. The rotor bars may be more numerous than the stator bars and feeding may be encouraged at the input and discouraged at the output.
