Abstract

1407646 Thermoplastic material dispensing gun ORNSTEEN CHEMICALS & TEXTILES CO Inc 13 Sept 1973 [10 Oct 1972] 43081/73 Heading F1R A gun for dispensing adhesive comprises a housing 10 having a chamber 22 for containing a cartridge of normally solid thermoplastic adhesive, means 24 for heating the chamber, a nozzle 16 having a normally closed valve 68 at one end of the chamber and a pneumatic assembly 18 including a mounting plate 26 at the other end, and having a gas supply port 46, connectable to a source of pressurized gas by means of a trigger 14, and a sealing plate 36 movable by an actuator 32 between a position in which it isolates the port 46 from the chamber and a position in which it permits communication. The actuator is operated by gas through tube 34, which is narrower than the passage 48 leading to the port 46, so that on actuation of the trigger the initial rush moves the plate a small distance to open aperture 44 slightly, before the pressure in the actuator is sufficient to overcome spring 54 and open it completely. When the trigger is released the chamber is vented through port 76, the actuator closing the aperture 44 relatively slowly to allow the pressure to fall to a desired residual level. The pressure required to open the valve 68 is between the residual pressure and the normal operating pressure in the chamber.
