Abstract
1407592 Ruthenium salt INTERNATIONAL NICKEL Ltd 8 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 58780/71 Heading C1A [Also in Division C7] An aqueous solution of a complex ruthenium salt having a nitrogen linkage Ru=N=Ru is produced by dissolving the compound Ru 2 N(OH) 5 .nH 2 O in sulphuric or sulphamic acid or a mixture thereof, and refluxing the resulting solution. The compound Ru 2 N(OH) 5 . nH 2 O may be prepared by dissolving in water a compound containing the ion (Ru 2 N(H 2 O) 2 Y 8 )<SP>3-</SP> in which Y is Cl or Br, and adding alkali to precipitate the required compound; or by adding alkali to an aqueous solution of a compound containing the ion (Ru(NO)Cl 5 )<SP>2-</SP>, adding formaldehyde and warming to produce precipitation of the required compound.
