1407396 Reversible ploughs C V R DOWDESWELL 4 Oct 1972 [6 July 1971] 31552/71 Heading A1B [Also in Division F2] A reversible plough includes a mechanism whereby the plough frame is positively supported at its mid-way over-centre position such that stress is relieved from the plough turning hydraulic ram. Reversal is effected by rotation of a shaft 5 by the pivoting of an arm 6, connected to plough share boom 2 from its Fig. 2 position to its Fig. 3 broken line position through the retraction and expansion of hydraulic ram 25. At the mid-way over-centre position (full line Fig. 3) a pin 60 on the arm 6 engages within the mouth of a pivoted claw-like lock 24 and abuts claw arm 24d. The claw is pivoted to the ram cylinder at 29 and to an inverted, generally U-shaped support 40 at 30. Continued movement of the arm 6 to its Fig. 3 broken line position cannot occur until the ram is extended to disengage pin 60 from claw arm 24d. Upon return of the arm 6 the pin engages with claw arm 24e in a similar manner. Additional over-centre support may be given by the engagement of a spring biassed pivoted pawl 31 on arm 6 with ratchet teeth 36 upon claw 24. The support 40, which aids in the connection of the plough to a tractor comprises two spaced but connected inverted U-shaped members between which the claw is pivoted at 30. The claw likewise comprises two spaced but connected members between which the ram is pivoted at 29.
