Abstract

1407069 Curable resin compositions ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 6 Dec 1972 [6 Dec 1971 5 July 1972] 56327/72 Heading C3P A curable resin composition comprises: (A) at least one polymer having at least one radically polymerizable double bond and having compatibility with the norbornene compound; and (B) from 5 to 150 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of (A) of a norbornene carboxylic acid compound having the general Formula (I) or (II) with at least 60 mol per cent of total norbornene carboxylic acid compound being exo-form. wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R<SP>1</SP> is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl, cycloalkyl, bicycloalkyl, tricycloalkyl, alkenyl, bicycloalkenyl, tricycloalkenyl, hydroxyalkyl or aralkyl group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms or derivatives thereof and R<SP>11</SP> is alkylene. Suitably the polymer is an unsaturated polyester, a polyester acrylate or methacrylate, a polyether acrylate or methacrylate, a polyurethane acrylate or methacrylate or an acrylated or methacrylated epoxy resin. In the examples the compositions comprise unsaturated polyesters prepared from phthalic anhydride, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, maleic anhydride, isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, 2,5-endomethylene tetrahydrophthalic acid and hydrogenated bisphenol A, a polymer prepared from an epoxy resin and methacrylic acid, a polymer prepared from toluene-di-isocyanate, polyethylene glycol and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, various norbornene carboxylic acid derivatives and styrene and they are cured using benzoyl peroxide, dimethyl aniline, benzophenone, a high pressure mercury arc lamp, benzoin, dicumyl peroxide, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide and cobalt naphthenate.
