Abstract

1406667 Spray evaporation NIRO ATOMISER AS 8 Sept 1972 [10 Sept 1971] 41713/72 Heading B1B [Also in Division F4] In a spray dryer, which also acts as a heat exchanger and a moistener, spray from 11, 11' meets warm gas from 16 formed by combustion of carbonaceous material e.g. oil and warm gas leaves through conduits 18. The resulting gas flow causes the liquid spray to form a coating on the wall of chamber 10 to protect it from the warm gas and wash off any solid formed thereon. When ore concentrate is being dried, wet sand may be introduced into the gas stream in tube 16 so that the sand is thoroughly mixed with the dried ore product. In example 1, water is used to cool combustion gas from an incinerator to 300‹C. In example 2, discharge gas from an electric melting furnace is cooled with water to 62‹C before being passed to an electrostatic dust separator. In example 3, digested sewage sludge is dried as it is used to cool combustion gas from an incinerator to 130‹C. In example 4 and 5, sulphidic copper-nickel ore concentrate is prepared using gas generated by burning coal and containing dust, and (Ex 5) sand. In example 6, aqueous nitrophosphate fertiliser is dried using gas generated by burning fuel oil.
