Abstract

1406408 Stopping and transferring conveyed articles; filling crates EMHART CORP 13 Feb 1974 [2 March 1973] 6546/74 Headings B8A and B8C Articles A in three conveyer lanes proceed on to a platform until they engage probes of respective lane detection devices 12. When at least two of the latter are activated, air is supplied to inflatable diaphragms 54, each forming part of a respective partition 32. The articles in each lane are thus gripped between one of the partitions 32 and one of two outer rigid partition members 34. Each diaphragm 54 is disposed between flexible resilient steel plates 60 and 62. These remain parallel as shown in Fig. 5, under zero inflation of the diaphragm 54, but deflect under expansion when the latter is inflated. The platform may be swung through 180 degrees to invert the articles, so that when pressure is released the latter may be dropped into a crate &c.
