Abstract

1406348 Sintered magnetic plate K DINTER 17 Oct 1973 48304/73 Heading C7D [Also in Division H1] An electromagnetic chuck is made by placing a non-magnetic separator 5 of undulating shape in a die, filling the rest of the die with soft iron powder, pressing and sintering to form a chuck in which the separator 5 divides the two separate magnetic poles 6 and 7. The separator may be brass or non-magnetic steel or alternatively synthetic resin may be poured into a sectioned mould. Electric coils 3 are fitted into grooves 4 and a cover-plate 2 attached.
