Abstract

1405434 Rigid polyurethane foams ARMAK CO 9 Aug 1972 [9 Aug 1971] 37070/72 Heading C3R Rigid polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting (1) a polyol component which comprises the product formed by the reaction of crude tall oil which contains from 5 to 50% rosin acid(s), from 1 to 30% unsaponifiable hydrocarbon material and the balance fatty acids, with at least one dialkanolamine of the formula HO-R 1 -NH-R 2 -OH in which R 1 and R 2 , which may be the same or different, each represent a C 1-8 alkylene group, (2) a polyiso- (thio)cyanate and (3) a blowing agent. The crude tall oil is one which has not been distilled or otherwise processed, or a distilled tall oil to which rosin acids and unsaponifiable materials (recovered from crude tall oil) have been added. The dialkanolamine is preferably diethanolamine. Other low molecular weight polyols may be included in the reaction mixture.
