Abstract
1405187 Automatic frequency control PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 Dec 1972 [3 Jan 1972] 60035/72 Heading H3A An automatic frequency control system, Fig. 1, for maintaining an oscillator 3 tuned to the natural frequency of a transducer 1, comprising a comparator 6 for comparing the phase difference between the current and voltage supplied to the transducer 1 to produce a width modulated pulse train varying in depedence on the phase difference, is characterized in that the oscillator is tuned by the output voltage from an integrator 18 which is fed with the width modulated pulses via a switch 21 when the oscillator is on and which is fed with a predetermined voltage via a further switch 29 each time the oscillator is switched off. The oscillator 1 is switched off by a switch 13 which disconnects the supply 16 from the oscillator, and connects it, via line 15, to charge integrator capacitor 18 to a potential which will cause varactor 7 to tune the oscillator to a frequency lower than the natural frequency of the transducer. When the oscillator is again switched on, integrator capacitor 18 is connected to charge from current source 19 until the charging current from this source balances the charge applied via switch 21, when the oscillator is tuned to the transducer. In a modification, Fig. 2, the integrator comprises amplifier 37 and capacitor 39 and the supply line 15 and comparator 6 are both connected to transistor 33 via an OR gate 42.
