Abstract

1405079 Defibrating bulk material; Moistening fibres KOCKUMS MEKANISKA VERKSTAD AB 18 April 1973 [20 April 1972] 18772/73 Headings D1F and D1N A process for defibrating bulk fibrous material comprises subjecting the material to air borne pressure waves in at least two simultaneously acting pressure wave fields of different frequencies. Pressure wave generators may comprise diaphragm valve sirens 5 and 6 directed toward fibrous material 4 or an air and sound permeable bed 3. The material may be subjected periodically to an increased intensity of pressure waves by advancing the siren 6 by means of a piston/cylinder 9, by increasing its volume or by activating an auxiliary siren disposed more closely to the material. An outlet valve 11 from the treatment chamber is closed during the periods of increased intensity. Moisture droplets or steam may be added to the siren air supply to moisten the fibre or aerosol nozzles may be provided. The moistening can be used e.g. to aid subsequent orientation of the fibres by an electrostatic field. The bed 3 may be constructed as a rotary disc or a conveyor belt with a plurality of pressure wave generators disposed along it.
