Abstract
1405010 Phenol-modified UF resins; chipboard BADISCHE ANILIN & SODA-FABRIK AG 2 Nov 1972 [3 Nov 1971] 50533/72 Addition to 1340935 Headings C3R and C3N A wood adhesive resin is obtained by condensing an amino compound which is urea or a urea-melamine mixture with 1À4 to 1À8 molar proportions of formaldehyde in aqueous solution to a water tolerance of 0À5-10, then condensing the product with 0À05-0À2 moles of a phenol per mole of amino compound, optionally together with melamine and/or up to 0À5 moles of additional formaldehyde, at 45-100‹ C. and pH 7À5-10 to a viscosity of 300-2000 cp at 63% solids and 20‹ C, the proportions used being such that the total amino compound used contains less than 15 mole per cent of melamine. In an example such a resin is prepared and used to make chipboard.
