1404721 Pressure cooker A E COTTON 10 Oct 1973 47229/73 Heading B1X [Also in Division F2] Cooking apparatus for pressure-cooking food comprises a vessel 1 to contain liquid 3 to be pressurised Having a top opening and a lid 8 having a sealing gasket 13, the lid being fixable to close the top opening of the vessel to maintain a preset pressure therein by means of a pressure valve 10 fixable in a vent 9 in the lid, the lid having attached thereto a perforated plate 16 substantially conforming to the shape and size of the top opening of the vessel, the plate being spaced from the inner surface of the lid. In use the perforations break up the flow of vapour through the vent 9, producing turbulence. The vessel may contain an inner food-containing compartment 2 which may in turn contain a wire basket. Heaters 4 may be provided in that part of the vessel containing the liquid. The lid may be held closed by a screw arm 20 held captive therein but rotatable relative thereto, engaged in a threaded hole in a beam 21.
