1404587 Digital to analogue converters EMI Ltd 30 Oct 1972 [30 Oct 1971] 59551/71 Heading H3H In forming an audio signal from digitally coded input signals using interpolation to reduce noise, the difference between successive pairs of input signals is converted to an analogue signal, integrated at 6 and fed through a low pass filter, 7, 14, 15, the time constant of which is varied in dependence on the time elapsed since the last non-zero output from the subtraction circuit 4. The sampling periods are counted in a counter 20 which is cleared whenever a non- zero difference occurs, the output of the counter controlling field effect transistors 11, 12, 13 to switch in or out resistances 8, 9, 10 to control the time constant of the filter. The time constant of 14, 15 alone is about 1/3 of the sampling period. To avoid loss of early portions of changes occuring after a long steady state, a delay may be included in the main channel between the subtracting circuit 4 and the filter.
