Abstract

140,438. Maxwell, J. July 15, 1918, [Convention date]. Ladders.-A device for preventing the end of a ladder from slipping comprises a half-tubular member 4 secured to the lowest rung by segmental sockets 6 and having a tubular stem for an adjustable stay 10 with rubber-faced shoe 11 to rest on the ground. Set-screws 9, 13, are provided to clamp the members 10, 4 in correct positions. In a modification, the stay consists of two slotted links 14, 19 adjustably fixed to the ladder and to each other by screws 15, 17.
