1404161 High performance laundry detergent COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 29 Aug 1972 [1 Sept 1971 12 Nov 1971 22 May 1972] 40005/72 Heading C5D A detergent composition substantially free of carbonate and phosphate comprises (A) sodium linear alkylbenzene sulphonate detergent, (B) sodium silicate, (C) a non-ionic detergent and (D) a water-soluble anti-redeposition polymer, the wt. ratio of (A) to (B) being in the range of 2 : 1 to 1 : 2, the wt. ratio of (A) to (C) being 15 : 1 to 4 : 1, the wt. ratio of (A) to (D) being 90 : 1 to 6 : 1 and the amount of (C) being at least 4% of (A) plus (B). The composition contains 18 to 45% of (A), 25 to 40% of (B), 3 to 5% of (C) and 0À5 to 3% of (D). (A) is preferably a sodium C 11 -C 14 alkyl benzene sulphonate; (B) is a sodium silicate with a Na 2 O: SiO 2 ratio of 1 : 2 to 1 : 3; (C) is preferably a C 10 -C 18 aliphatic alcohol condensate with 5-15 moles ethylene oxide; (D) is preferably sodium carboxymethylcellulose which may be replaced in part or all by polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, sodium starch glycolate, sodium cellulose sulphate, starches or copolymers of maleic anhydride and ethylene or vinyl methyl ether. Optional additions are (E) foam suppressors, e.g. soap and di-coco-amine; (F) bleaches, e.g. sodium hypochlorite, sodium trichlorocyanurate and sodium perborate; (G) organic builders; (H) dyestuffs; (J) enzymes; and (K) germicides. The compositions are high performance laundry detergents effective in hard water.
