Abstract

1403655 Winches BATON CORP 14 June 1973 [14 June 1972] 28387/73 Heading B8B A hoist comprises an operating shaft 13 motor-drivable in opposite raising and lowering directions, a brake disc 28, 28a drivable by the shaft 13 when driven in the lowering direction, but not in the raising direction, by means of an overrunning clutch 15, and rotationally fixed brake plates 31, 32 squeezing the brake disc 28, 28a between them. As shown the plate 32 can slide on fingers 37 and is loaded by springs 39 towards the plate 31 which lies in contact with end wall 14 of the hoist frame, being rotationally fixed by engaging with lugs 35 thereon, the wall 14 of the hoist thus dissipating a portion of the frictional energy due to the lowering of the load.
