1403610 Polyester compositions having good dyeing affinity RHONE-POULENC-TEXTILE 27 Oct 1972 [29 Oct 1971] 49708/72 Addition to 1386491 Heading C3R [Also in Division C2] A polyester composition comprises (a) one or more polyesters derived from an aromatic diacid and an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diol of 2 to 10 carbon atoms and (b) 1-10% (based on the number of moles of the diacid component in (a)) of a compound of the formula (R) 4 N<SP>+</SP>.1/nX<SP>n-</SP> or (R<SP>1</SP>) 3 N<SP>+</SP>-(CH 2 ) m -N<SP>+</SP>(R<SP>1</SP>) 3 .2/nX<SP>n-1</SP> in which R is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic radical, at least two of the radicals R may be joined to form a saturated or unsaturated ring which may contain other nitrogen atoms besides that shown in the formula, R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1-18 alkyl group or a benzyl radical or, when n is 2, two R<SP>1</SP> radicals, one on each nitrogen atom, together form a -CH 2 CH 2 - radical, none of the radicals R or R<SP>1</SP> contain groups capable of forming ester linkages, X is an anion of valency n of a organic sulphonic acid or inorganic oxyacid, n is a positive integer and m is an integer from 1 to 12. The examples describe compositions containing (i) polyesters derived from (a) dimethyl terephthalate and 1,4-butanediol, and (b) terephthalic acid and 1,6-hexanediol, optionally containing titanium dioxide and (ii) tetrabenzyl ammonium p-toluenesulphonate, N,N,N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP>- tetramethyl-N,N<SP>1</SP>-distearyl - hexamethylene - diammonium bis-p-toluenesulphonate and N,N,NN<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP> - hexamethyl - dodecamethylene-diammonium bis-p-toluene sulphonate. The compositions may be formed into fibres and dyed with acid dyestuffs.
