Abstract

1403528 Blasting B E HART 14 Nov 1972 [30 Nov 1971] 55627/71 Heading B3D [Also in Division F2] A control valve assembly 1, having a supply line 4, an exhaust line 12 and an outlet line 15 to an abrasive-blasting apparatus, has a flow directing valve member 17 formed with surfaces 18 and 19 which are engageable with, respectively, seat members 9 and 7. The dimensioning of the valve member is such that fluid within inlet chamber 5 tends to bias the valve member 17 into engagement with seat 9. Such bias may be augmented by a spring 28. Movement of the valve member into engagement with seat 7 is effected by way of lever 26, which by way of stop 25, acts on the valve member stem 29. The inlet and outlet chambers 5 and 13 and the seats 7 and 9 are defined by cylindrical members 20 and spacers 31, 21 and 22, all being held together by a screw-threaded insert 24. The assembly may include a hand guard 30. The line 4 may be connected to a high-pressure water-pump and the line 15 to the nozzle of the apparatus. In a second embodiment, the line 4 is normal to the axis of the valve and to the outlet and return lines. The outlet line is connected by a flexible hose to a supply of sand or grit and water while the return line forms a low pressure jet to clean sand off the workpiece. A tapered portion of hardened steel, ceramic or tungsten carbide creates a reduced pressure in the outlet line to draw abrasive moisture through the flexible hose.
