Abstract
1403453 Variable resistors WALTER PREH GmbH 23 Nov 1972 [23 Nov 1971] 54260/72 Heading HIS A variable resistance element comprises an insulating member 1, with connecting elements 2 embedded therein so that the top surface is in the same plane as the surface of member 1, a resistance element, which is a film 2, which a sliding contact slides over, and an annular contact element 4, which is embedded in member 1 and has a connecting portion 6 and surrounds a central aperture 5, which receives an actuating shaft (not shown). Member 1 may be made from hard paper, glass fibre-reinforced epoxy material or anodized aluminium covered by varnish or plastic. Material in the form ofÀa strip with perforations along both edges to facilitate positioning, punching and stamping may be used in the manufacture of a plurality of components (Fig. 3, not shown). Elements 2, coated underneath with a temperature activated adhesive may be copper foil 0À03 mm, thick coated with tin or an alloy of 95% lead 5% tin 0À005 mm. thick and embedded in member 1 by heating and pressure. The resistance film is then applied by spraying or printing and then burnt or calcined. Bridges retained between the components are then removed. The variable resistance component may also be of a multiple slide linear type (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) and resistance tracks may be formed on both sides of the insulating member. The component may also be part of a potentiometer.
