1403094 Chain conveyers NIPPON SUISAN KK 17 Oct 1972 [26 Oct 1971 25 Aug 1972(7)] 47790/72 Heading B8A [Also in Division B7] A chain conveyer comprises a series of article supporting stirrups 2 freely pivoted to a single endless chain (21, Fig. 8) or between a pair of endless chains 1, and guide plates 6, 7, 9 for guiding an article 5 on the conveyer at curved and vertical parts of the conveyer path. The single endless chain (21) is guided by tracks (22) and carries a series of open sided stirrups (26) which may be carried at each side of the chain (Fig. 9). In a modification (Fig. 11) an open sided stirrup (19) has its load carrying part disposed vertically beneath the chain (21). In other modifications (Figs. 12, 13) each stirrup comprises, either a rod (29) connected to a pair of chains by coil springs (28), or a coil spring (30) connected between a pair of chains. For discharging articles from a conveyer having open sided stirrups, a guide plate (16) extending alongside the stirrups is interrupted at a point where a plough (17) is disposed obliquely of the path of the conveyer. To discharge articles from a conveyer as shown on Fig. 3 a ramp 45 (Fig. 16a) is raised to pivot the stirrups 2 upwardly so that a plough (46) can discharge the articles. Fig. 18 shows means for feeding articles to, and discharging them from, the vertical run of a conveyer as in Fig. 3. In this run, the lowermost face of the article 5 is supported by one stirrup 2a. A guide plate 47 for the articles has pivotal gates 50, 57 opposite advancable deflectors 51. A conveyer 59 feeds articles to the gate 57. In Fig. 14, two vertically disposed conveyers are arranged one above the other, articles being transferred upwardly between the conveyers by a guide 39 and a roller 40, and downwardly by a guide 42 and a roller 43. In Fig. 22, the conveyer is used as the driving system for trolleys 72. At the upper run of the conveyer, the trolleys are cradled in stirrups 77 and receive material from a hopper 80. The conveyer then carries the filled trolleys to a sprocket 76 where the trolleys are inverted so that wheels 73 thereon engage guide rails 74. A stop 81 halts the trolley to discharge the material.
