Abstract

1402312 Sealing rings BORG-WARNER Ltd 19 Jan 1973 [21 Jan 1972] 3082/72 Heading F2B A split PTFE sealing ring 15 is formed on its inner or outer periphery with an annular groove 17 and a radial bore extending through the ring. As shown in Fig. 1, the ring is located in a groove 13 in a rotary shaft and its outer periphery sealingly engages the shaft housing 10. The ring is split at 20 and has a radial bore connecting the groove 17 with the sealed space 22. The bore may be located at the split 20, Fig. 1, or alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), there may be two diametrically opposite radial bores 23, 24 spaced from the split. In Fig. 1, the ring rotates with the shaft. If the shaft is stationary and the housing rotates, the sealing ring is located in a groove in the housing and is grooved in its inner periphery.
