Abstract

1402027 Sewing machines SINGER CO 15 Sept 1972 [7 March 1972] 42815/72 Heading DIG To regulate the stitch length in a sewing machine having a feed advancing rock shaft 32 oscillatable by a pitman 38 which has a pivoted block 50 oscillatable in a guideway 56 of a guide block 54 on rotation of the machine main shaft 44 by a cam 42, the pivotal position of the block 54 is adjusted by manual rotation of an adjusting sector 60 having a cam slot 86 engageable by a follower 106 on a lever 96 which is pivoted at 100 and has an arm 112 with a slot 114 engaging the block 54, the axes of pivoting of the main shaft 44, the guide block 54 and the sector 60 being parallel. As shown the guide block 54 is secured to a pivot shaft 58 which is journalled in a bushing 68 on which is concentrically journalled the sector 60. Normally a spring 118 biasses the block 54 clockwise in figures 4 and 5 and hence the lever 96 anticlockwise so that the follower 106 engages the forward feed cam surface 88. To reverse the feed a knob 124 on an arm 112 of the lever 96 is depressed to pivot the lever so that the follower 106 engages a reverse feed cam surface 90, the spring 118 returning the lever to the forward feed cam surface on releasing the knob 124, the cams 88 and 90 being chosen to provide the same stitch length for a given setting of the sector 60.
