Snap-action switches; contacts.-A double-pole switch is constructed within the dimensions of an ordinary single-pole tumbler switch while retaining normal break dimensions by arranging the fixed contacts out of alinement so that two of the movable contacts may move into positions in line with two of the fixed contacts without engaging them. As shown applied to a tumbler switch having the dead-centre quick-action movement described in Specifications 140,179 and 140,180, two fixed contacts 44, 43 are arranged at each side of the axis of the tumbler out of alinement with one another. The movable bridging contact members 45, which move together as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, bridge the pairs of contacts 43, 44 in the closed position. In the open position, the ends of the contact members 45 which engaged the pairs of contacts 43, which are close together, lie between the more widely spaced contacts 44 and fail to engage them, leaving a substantial break distance. The contact members 45 may cross one another or may bridge the contacts 43, 44, as shown in Fig. 4.
