Abstract

1401770 Hydraulic control circuits PLESSEY CO Ltd 27 Nov 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 60610/71 Heading F1P A piston 1b Fig. 1 is moved a predetermined amount in a cylinder 1a by actuating one or more of pistons 3b, 4b, 5b to force liquid from one or more of chambers 3e, 4e, Se into chamber le. By arranging that the volumes of chambers 3e-5e are in the ratio 1:2:4 the piston 1b can be moved in equal steps up to a maximum of seven steps. As described the pistons 3b-5b are pneumatically operated and are controlled by solenoid valves which connect selected ones of chambers 3f-5f to a pressure source P or to atmosphere. To return the piston 1b to the position shown the space If is connected to the pressure source P. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates a circuit in which the valve 11 is replaced by a pressure source P1 which is permanently connected to the space 1f and is at a lower pressure than the supply P 2 to the spaces 3f-5f.
