Abstract
1383779 Fluid pressure apparatus APPLIED POWER INDUSTRIES Inc 6 June 1972 [25 June 1971] 26396/72 Heading F1P [Also in Divisions El and F2] A hydraulic system for controlling an hydraulically actuated piston cylinder power unit from a point remote from the unit comprises a manual control 62 operating through a mechanical system 66a a remotely situated, reciprocable pilot valve 150, 226 controlling, in proportion to its movements, the movements of a reciprocable main valve 108, that normally adopts a null or balanced position, to move the valve from said position upon movement of the manual control to selectively supply pressurized fluid to and to relieve fluid from the power unit. Preferably the control 62 is a joy stick control for controlling three such hydraulic control systems A, B, C, each system regulating an associated one of the power units 28 of a shovel excavator. The main valve may be a four way spool valve 102, 200 and the pilot valve 150, 226 can be a spool valve reciprocably mounted within a bore in the spool 108 of the main valve or in an extension 204 of the spool valve 200, the valves having lands and internal bores appropriate to the desired control function of the main valve. One end surface 178 of the main spool valve 102 or the end surface 218, 220 of a flange 212 on the extension 204 is in constant communication with the fluid pressure source of the system whilst the other end surface 168 of the valve or surface 222 of flange 222, to which the pressurized fluid is applied when the pilot valve is moved to initiate movement of the main valve spool is twice the area of the other end surface 178, 218, 220. A mechanical feedback means 90a may be provided between the power unit and the pilot valve to cause recenfring of the pilot valve after movement of the main valve has occurred to cause actuation of the power unit.
