Abstract

1401663 Analyzer WIRA 7 Aug 1973 [12 May 1972] 22275/72 Heading G1B A cylindrical wall 1 having perforated top and bottom walls 2 and 3 defines a chamber for a sample 4 of a material to be analyzed. Means for reciprocating wall 1 in an up and down direction in a cylinder 5 comprises a crank 7, rotated by motor 20, link 9 and arms 10. In use, a weighed sample e.g. a mixture of textile fibres, is inserted in the chamber and cylindrical container 5 is filled to the level 23 with a solvent. The motor 20 causes the chamber to reciprocate up and down within chamber 5 so that the solvent is driven back and forth through the chamber and thus through the sample. An outlet 11 from the bottom of container 5 leads via a tube 12 and valve 13 to waste. An inlet 14 is connected via a tube 15 and valve 16 to a rinsing fluid supply reservoir 17 and an inlet 21 in the top wall 3 is connected by means of a flexible tube 19 to a hot air source 22. By these means the sample may be rinsed and dried and then reweighed to determine the amount of component dissolved in the solvent. The container 5 may be surrounded by a water bath 18. A further embodiment is shown in Fig. 3.
