Abstract
1401245 Protective circuits for vehicle generators TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Ltd 4 Sept 1972 40905/72 Heading H2H A circuit for protecting a vehicle generator from excessive voltage comprises a thyristor connected directly across the rectified output of the generator and a Zener diode Z for triggering the thyristor. If an excessively high voltage occurs across conductors H, E, due for example to failure of a component in a regulating circuit RC, the rise in potential at the junction of resistors R2, R3 causes breakdown of the Zener diode Z, thereby switching on transistors VT1, VT2 to supply the positive voltage at the junction of the resistors R2, R3 to the gate of the thyristor. The thyristor conducts to reduce the voltage across the conductors H, E and to reduce the energization of a field winding F of the generator. The transistors VT1, VT2 may be replaced by a thyristor.
