Abstract

1400601 Reciprocating pumps F HOFFMAN-LA ROCHE & CO A G 23 June 1972 [6 July 1971] 29550/72 Heading F1A A pump for corrosive liquids, e.g. for analysis, comprises a block 1, e.g. of P.T.F.E., with a pumping piston 3, e.g. of glass, and a diaphragm 14, e.g. of P.T.F.E., controlling the connection of inlet and outlet ducts 7 and 12 to the pump cylinder duct 10, a rod 22 being secured to the diaphragm, e.g. by adhesive, to move the diaphragm into and out of sealing engagement with inlet duct opening 8 and a rod 26 effecting movement of the diaphragm in relation to delivery duct opening 11, both rods 22, 26 being actuated by cam surfaces on crank disc 20 which also drives piston 3 via guided rod 18. Rods 22, 26 are connected to levers 24, 27 spring-loaded against disc 20. A cup seal 4 is biased against piston 3 by O-rings 5 and is located in a chamber 32 through which cleaning water is circulated. In operation of the embodiment shown, a second piston 35, which may be omitted, Fig.1 (not shown), draws in a specimen liquid through pipette end 42a of spiral hose 42, and piston 3 draws in a flushing liquid. On the delivery stroke, piston 35 discharges the specimen through hose 42, and piston 3 discharges flushing liquid through cylinder 40 and hose 42.
