Abstract

1400380 Modulators for antiskid braking systems SOC ANON DBA 14 Jan 1974 [8 Feb 1973] 01597/74 Heading F2F A fluid pressure modulator for an antiskid brake system comprises in a housing having an inlet 14 and outlet 16 and a relief orifice 18, a first chamber 20 connected to inlet 14 by a first duct 22 containing a constriction 24 to the outlet 16 by a duct 26 and to orifice 18 by a duct 28, an electromagnetically controlled valve 32 being biased by a spring 34 to close duct 28 and open duct 22 and being movable by a solenoid 33 to open duct 28 and close duct 22, a second chamber 48 communicating with inlet 14 a duct 50 connecting the chamber 48 to outlet 16 and by-passing the constriction 24 and chamber 20, a second valve 52 urged into the open position by a spring 54 and biased into closed position by a piston responsive to the fluid pressure in a cavity 58 opening into the duct 28 between chamber 20 and a second constriction 30, the valve 52 upon standing in its closed position being responsive to fluid pressures in chamber 48 and duct 50 acting on opposite faces thereof. In operation, when the logic unit (not shown) controlling the antiskid circuit initiates antiskid action solenoid 33 moves the valve member 32 upwards to prevent fluid from the control valve V reaching the brake F which then discharges via duct 26 chamber 20, duct 28, a constriction 72 and orifice 18 the discharge being controlled by piston 44 by means of which valve 40 is closed when pressure in duct 26 is sufficiently high.
