Abstract

1400198 Spray-cleaning of tanks H FELDMANN 8 Sept 1972 41886/72 Heading C7E [Also in Division F1] Deposits are removed from the interior of chambers or tanks by spraying under pressure an aqueous solution of 1-ascorbic acid. Typically the acid is used in 1-2 wt per cent concentration and may have added to it 1-2% alcohol, 1-2% acidresistant wetting agent, 1-2% another organic acid, 1-2% disinfectant and 0.1-1% corrosion inhibitor. The chamber or tank may be a drinking water storage vessel or piping associated therewith. Apparatus for the process comprises a tank 1 for cleaning solution, a source of air-pressure such as a hand-pump 9 or pressure cylinder, connected via tube 12 and snap-connector 5 to tank 1, an outlet pipe 8 leading to a flexible hose and valved spraywand 11 with adjustable nozzle 14; the apparatus has a lid forced tight by air-pressure from within, and may be movable on wheels as shown.
