Abstract

1399628 Cutting apparatus NETHERLANDS APPLIED SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FOR INDUSTRY TRADE & COMMERCE 13 Sept 1972 [14 Sept 1971] 42553/72 Heading B4B A method of cutting a film web 1 into strips 13, e.g. for use in the manufacture of yarn, comprises feeding the web past a number of knives 10 arranged side-by-side and parallel to the direction of movement of the web, and passing the web over an edge member 9 located adjacent the cutting edges of the knives. The web 1 is fed from a supply reel 2 over rollers 4, then over stationary rods 6, 7 and the edge member 9, the cut strips then being guided over an edge 14 and rollers 15 to a take-up reel 17. The reel 17 is rotated at a faster speed than the supply reel in order that the web is maintained under tension. The contact point 8 of the edge member 9 is coated with a material having a relatively high coefficient of friction thereby assisting in producing the tension; alternatively a brake may be applied to the supply reel.
