Abstract

1399471 Erecting tray blanks BOWATER PACKAGING Ltd 8 May 1973 [9 May 1972] 21527/72 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] A jig for assisting in the erection of a tray blank, Fig. 1, includes a vertically reciprocably blank supporting member 73 carrying rods 81 on which folding arms 83 are pivotally motmted, posts 87 secured to the arms 83 for locating a blank by engagement with apertures 19 in side wall panels 3,5 of the blank, and rods 69, 71 for folding end walls panels 11, 13 and corner flaps 25. In operation once a blank is located on the jig, the blank supporting member 73 is lowered causing the arms 83 to be cammed upwardly and inwardly by engagement with rods 63 or with cam devices (66), Fig. 4a (not shown), mounted on parallel rods (64, 65<SP>1</SP>). The posts 87 engaged in the apertures 19 of the blank cause the base panel 1 to move downwardly with the blank supporting member 73 and the side wall panels 3, 5, end wall panels 11, 13 and corner flaps 25 are folded upwardly and inwardly by the arms 83 and rods 69, 71. The length of the member 73 is variable and the cam devices (66) and rods 69, 71 are slidably mounted on the rods (65<SP>1</SP>), 65 respectively to allow adjustment of the jig to accommodate blanks of various sizes. The downward movement of the member 73 is effected by a treadle and the arms 83 are spring-biased to resist the pivoting caused by downward movement of the member 73.
