139,943. Knox, H. S. April 30, 1919. Wire compensators; visual outdoor signals; slots, reversers, and like apparatus.- A wire compensator, which may be combined with a slot, comprises a vertically-sliding weighted member 4 suspended either from a single operating- wire or, as shown, on the wires 3 from two controlling- levers, and arranged to be moved vertically thereby. The signal arm is connected to a crank 13 pivoted so as to cause a roller thereon to bear on the two parallel surfaces 4a, 4b of the member 4, which are joined by a sloping surface 4<c>. Stops prevent lateral movement of the bar 4, and hence, when it is moved vertically, the crank 13 is rocked to move the signal. The weight 4 takes up slack in the signal wires, but does not move the signal in so doing, since the roller on the crank 13 bears on the parallel surfaces in the clear and danger positions of the signal.
